If you are using IE to "browse" a folder of images, it will use the default application for each image type. Perhaps PNG is registered for something else on your computer.

If you create an actual web page with IMG tags, it will work fine. Try this code for your HTML page: 

<html>
  <head>
    <title>test</title>
  </head>
  <body>
<img src="test.png">
  </body>
</html>
