X/Gnome problem by nix 2003-01-19 12:23:01
I've got a RH7.2 box here using Matrox's driver for a G400 board. The display is set to 1280x1024. My monitor won't do more than 60 Hz at that resolution, so I want to decrease the resolution. I know how to change the resolution (ctrl-alt-+/-), but that only changes the screen resolution, not the desktop size (so now I have to scroll to see my whole desktop). Restarting X didn't help. I changed the default resolution to 1024x768 in the appropriate XF86Config file, and now X loads in 1024x768 with a 1280x1024 desktop. GDM also loads in this state, so I don't think it's just a Gnome problem.

Anyone know how to fix this so that my desktop is the same size as my screen?
