The French waiter (the maitre'd-bot) always addresses you as "sieur/dame" (pronounced "syurr-DAMM"), a contraction of "monsieur/madame".

As for an English version of that, what about... "sirdam." Er, no. "Your haemaphrodicity?" Absolutely not. "Sir/Madam," as used in dead-tree letters, seems too formal.

I think sieurdame is the best we have. :-)
