...I have worked on a wireless install or two. If you're just looking to use the wireless as a replacement for wiring between buildings, a Linksys wireless access point (or router w/built-in access point) and 4 wireless ethernet bridges would do you quite well - we've been looking into something like what you're talking about doing, but on a slightly more expansive scale - 1/2-mile to a mile inbetween the access point and the bridges, so we'd probably have to mount outdoor directional antennas for the bridges, and a large omnidirectional antenna for the access point.
If there's no significant metal structuring in the buildings that you're trying to connect, the antennas supplied with the access point and the bridges should work acceptably well - just make sure that you don't leave the system open for other adapters and access points to connect into - setting up WEP and shared keys will prevent the lion's share of that. |
