Debate topic of the day: by slayer2003-01-19 03:48:34
Given the military power owned by goverments ATM by Tomo 2003-01-19 05:18:43
An armed revolution cannot work in almost any country today, unless it has the support of most of that country's military power, AND/OR the support of another more powerful country's military.
(Example being Afganistan)

Otherwise, given the weaponry that the majority of countries today have in their military such a revolution would almost certainly be crushed rapidly, although whether or not it would be completely destroyed depends on local conditions.

Therefore another method of revolution should be used, in the event that a sufficiently large group of civilians decided it was necessary. (How big is sufficient?)

In any country that claims to be a democracy this should be possible by forming a political party. In the UK this has proven to be so, as even if the party never actually gets into power, if they get a few (10 or so) seats in Parliament they have had enough shove to push laws around.
In our current situation this is harder as the stupid populace has let Labour get a supermajority, but that's the risk our system runs.

In the US, this doesn't seems to be a viable method given the laughable "Two-Party System", and so you'd need to find another.

In short:
If you are a US citizen, armed revolution WILL NOT WORK.
Find another way, but you'll have to be creative given your excuse for democracy.
