I was wondering why the cat's fur was falling out. Maybe I should put the metal cover back on the microwave, plexiglass just doesn't seem to cut it when it comes to radiation shielding. I think modding my microwave case may have been a bad idea. ;)

I think what he was referring to was having an open panel on the microwave so that people can go in and tinker with it. If you'll notice the warnings on the back (and mostly the bottom) of the case, there is one that says, "No user serviceable parts inside." This is a total crock. The most common part inside a microwave to fail (aside from the inline fuse) is the triac, a part that can be purchased from most Radio Shack stores. You cannot, however, purchase a replacement magnetron from Radio Shack, they don't carry that kind of thing.
