In reality, they are low-cost alternatives: One leading vendor, Red Hat Linux, has made money for several quarters, which would be quite a coup if it gave away its products.
RedHat is freely downloadable and distrobutable. You _CAN_ goto the store and buy it, and they probebly made money off the classes they teach on how to use it. But the OS itself, is infact free. |
