and I grew up around lights, so I know enough.

Personally i think the fact that we paid for the original auto on / off, then paid for 2 more for the ones that worked properally (that were about $40 or something like that) and 2 electrician visits... would say that it would have been more cost effective to just leave the light on and forget the whole mess :)
