Cause your position is really strong here.
There's a big difference between a cop (of your own government) and a group of nations (by definition, not of your own government).
If my next-door neighbor prevents the UPS trucks from coming to my door, _then_ I will have to do something to fix that situation. Because I have a higher authority to appeal to (the government shared by both me and my neighbor), that is where I would appeal for justice.
With a sovereign nation, however, it's like saying me and my neighbor live in unsettled territory (like in the old west). In that case, in order to survive, I'd have to take direct action against the swine.
None of this argues for "justification", however, as that is a misleading term. There are scenarios where I can make him look like the bad guy, or myself look like the bad guy, or neither, or both. But the fact remains that I would do what I needed to.
Personally, though, I'd try to find a saner solution. For example, if my neighbor didn't like me pouring my crap in the upstream river and he had enough hired guns to make me stop, I think I'd opt for not crapping in his water. |
