Before I was root, I did Tech Support. (Still do, on occasion, but for a decent OS that calls superusers "root", and not "Administrator"... ;-)). Reading back numbers saves a lot of TechSupport hassles.
Before work, I was at University, and I found reading back numbers that were given as a part of a set of instructions saved me a load of work from time to time!
Before University, I was in the Air Training Corps (Air Cadets, if you prefer...), and they kinda like you to read back certain parts of messages.
Before anyone asks, yes I do use phonetics for letters if the line is bad enough to warrant it, and it still amazes me how many people don't understand the phonetics "uniform" and "x-ray". I've even had someone say (and I quote!): "No, 'u' as in 'uncle', not 'y' as in 'you-knee-form'..."
(At least, I think that's what they meant. I fail to see how else they could get a "Y" in "uniform", and I refuse to admit that someone in charge of an Oracle database couldn't spell it properly!)
