There's some great info on the Raelian religion on several cult-watch web sites. A Google search will turn up ample information.
I find it interesting that 5,000 of the 55,000 reported adherents live in the province of Quebec. The Quebec government has even given them some kind of officially recognized religion status.
Around 1998 the Raelians started a corporation in Barbados called "Clonaid", with the mission of creating a human clone. They were recently encouraged to leave by the government of Barbados, so they have relocated their labs to the US where they are now under careful scrutiny by the FDA.
The Raelians were also a charter member in an international organization to lobby for the rights of "minority religions", co-founded by the Church of Scientology, the Moonies, and the Jehovah's Witnesses to name a few. |
