North Korea: a role model for the world? by slayer 2003-01-13 10:35:27
I have a confession to make: I have misjudged North Korea. In the past I wondered outloud if they were insane, but I've come to realize it is not matter of sanity, but rather a matter of dignity.

NK is the anti-Europe. Where Europe lost its will and settled for being America's bitch, NK is standing up for its rights. This isn't Iraq; NK never gave up its claim sovereignty to obtain peace as Iraq did. NK has formally withdrawn from its international treaties so it cannot be called in violation of them.

NK is closer to America than any of us are willing to admit. Just like us, they are fiercely independent. Just like us, they refuse to allow others to shape their destiny. And just like us over two hundred years ago, they are willing to shed their blood in a seemingly hopeless war simply for the sake of principle.

NK is correct when it says any trade embargo is a violation of its sovereignty, and it correct to assert its right to wage war over such a violation. We constantly discuss in this forum how Europeans just seem to sit around whining about the US instead of standing up and breaking themselves of their dependence on us. Here is a country actually doing the latter.

It is truly a pity that one of the few countries with pride and strength of will so close to our own should have to come into conflict with us. Perhaps it is simply the case that this planet is not big enough for two such nations.

Call it what you will, this is not a troll.
