RealPlayer: evil and sneaky, or just plain nasty? by Route 2003-01-13 10:20:35
How's this for being underhanded?

My boyfriend has RealPlayer as well as several other media players installed on his Windows box. He went and told Windows to always use WinAmp to play certain file types. But every time it opens them, it asks if he wants to open them using RealPlayer. What's going on?

Turns out RealPlayer hijacks the registry. If you have a file with a certain MIME type, RealPlayer tells Windows to give it a certain extension always associated with RealPlayer.

Disgusting.
