in catching a suitable husband, having a kid and staying home .. never mind that they are well-educated and well able to have a career - and be able to obtain adequate childcare to do so .. I still come across women in the thirties (also reasonably educated) who believe that they should be at home looking after their husbands .. Socially entrenched gender differentiation is not so strong here as it was - guys do expect to look after their children, gender-based villification is not acceptable in the workplace, we have equal wages for equal work (and you could take your employer to the Industrial Court if they discriminated against you). Teenagers are more likely to have friends of both sexes than be searching for "the one" as they would have done when I was their age.
