Actually, my guess is Illiad didn't mean either of those two, but it's wonderful to see how our own language and culture influence our understanding of the comic. The real meaning is much as LionsPhil already said: Stef (although not "worried") is just nonplussed at the exuberance the geeks show at an overly complex chair. He doesn't get the "coolness" of it. Translation: Stef is scornful of the geeks for getting excited about the chair. Addendum: adding any of those personal interpretations to the "knobs" line is incorrect, but lots of fun.
