linux dist choise help needed! by Helgon 2003-01-13 06:43:59
i've finaly decided that i'm going to install linux on my comp... as dualboot with windows until i get everything to work on linux...
But now i face the problem with choosing a dist.
I want a free downloadable iso dist.
And it has to have good hardware support...
It's been a while since i read anything about linux and such so i'm not really sure what might be a problem to install.

as for hardware i've got a GeForce 2 MX200, this shouldn't be a problem to install i hope, since its rather old and common.
Soundblaster Live soundcard, shouldn't be more trouble than any other soundcard, right?
USB mouse, 4 button cordless trackball... I'm guessing this could be a bit of a hassle, atleast to get all the 4 buttons to work the way i want them to.
A olympus C220zoom digital camera, i read somewhere that the olympus team messed up the initialization sequence for the usb so it's a bit of problem getting that to work, but it's supposibly well documented so i should manage
A Palm. Is there any good palm software for linux? i mean with the syncronising calender and stuff like that?
And finaly the thing that i'm guessing would be the biggest problem, a sony DRU500A dvd writer, i'm not asking for a working writer directly of installation, but i really would want a working dvd player atleast...

hmm... long story short,
i want a linux dist with easy install and good hardware support.
