Once you have it installed, you can run it without installing it. Like say, if you dualboot 98/2000, you can install it in either OS and then boot to the other side and run in the other. I'm not sure about running it from a mapped drive, but so long as you use the trillian dir for profiles I don't see why it wouldn't work.
