and get the sentence revoked -- or even get the case re-opened -- no matter whether you can *prove* that they're innocent.

Most people in the justice system seem more worried about being shown to be in error than whether they execute an innocent man (or whether the guilty party is laughing his/her head off).

In cases where legal careers lead to or are otherwise tied to political ones, they possibly don't even care.
