| Anyone is welcome to try recording a UF parody song. The usual "don't make money from it" rule applies.
The other, bigger issue is why I can't release a CD of the parodies. Even if I was to just cover my costs of pressing a CD, I'd have to get approval from SOCAN (Canada's version of the RIAA) -- and the one-time charge is approximately CAD$40,000 CDN (~USD$28,000) per song bed -- and that assumes that the artist whom I am parodying even grants permission.
A CD of a dozen such parodies would run about half a million Canuck Dollars for the rights alone. So when you ask why I haven't done this yet...well. Q.E.D. :) |
