A quick answer (YMMV) is that if you believe in God, believe He is good, and believe that He sent His Son to die so that you sins can be forgiven, and honestly desire that forgivness, then you will be forgiven. You can make mistakes, but you must honestly desire forgivness for those also. That takes care of the "well, what if I go out and murder people afterwords?" question.
All you truly need to be saved are those things I described above. That's the short form. |
