of glblues' post. basically, it amounts to "That was then, this is now.".
But to answer your issue (outdated though it is) God was attacking those He felt were the enemy of all He represented. Under the Law, that was the appropriate thing to do. If you don't live by the Law, you die by it. Semitic peoples seem to generate faiths like that.
After Christ's sacrifice, you live by Grace. Therefore, all are guilty, no matter how well they obey the Law, so instead of killing the "bad" guy, you are supposed to tend to your own salvation, and then talk the other guy into tending to his (hers). |
