Early this year, finding myself unemployed in Michigan, I bought a round-trip ticket to Phoenix, AZ. I found a job on the hoof that pays $10 an hour. It may not seem like much, but it's paying for a small condo. My primary transportation is a bicycle, and the bus system is great. Meanwhile, I'm taking night classes to get one of those coveted sheets of paper. Phoenix may not be for you, but there are other cities in which a car is optional. Best of luck to you!
