Land Use in Alaska | by caffine-iv | 2002-12-29 21:35:52 |
| How about we compare populations |

How many people in Alaska? 626,932 according to the 2000 census.
How big is Alaska? 571,951 square miles.
How many people per square mile? 1.1
Now...how big is 19% of that size? 108671 square miles.
That makes it about 5.77 people per square mile of usable land.
Let's compare that to some other states:
Washington: 88.6
Oregon: 35.6
Texas: 79.6
Utah: 27.2
Colorado: 41.5
And last but not least....
Montana: 6.2
I say 'not least', because that, even after your whinging, is you. Alaska, even after all the complaints about your usable space, is still the place where you have the least people for the most land. To top all that off, you've got abundant natural resources (not all of which are in the land reserves), high education, and volumes of money-spending tourists.
Maybe there is something wrong with Alaskans that has nothing to do with their land.
