and as I said, is an approximation. If you look at the book I reccomended, most of hte protected areas have these nice boundries that run the base of mountain ranges. Altho occasinally they did include some mountains, and I did my best to figure roughly how much. There is some degree of error in the figure I gave, I admit that. But it can't be very much. I have an idea, lets choke _EVERY_ state out there so it can only touch 30% of it's land!
