You mentioned that another 40% of Alaska is unusable, being swampland or mountains. Is that actually the case, or do the protected areas encompass some of that? I only ask this because numbers have a way of getting tricky sometimes. For example, several years ago many people in BC got their knickers in a twist when it was reported that 110% of BC was claimed under the land claims of the various First Nations in the province. "Ohmygoodness! Everything and more is up for grabs? Wherever shall we live?????" :-)
