<quote>
Atheism is not a religion, in the sense that Christianity, Islam, and, Judaism are. Atheism is not generally perceived as offering a complete guideline for living as do most religions.
Atheism is confined to one factor: the existence or non-existence of a deity.
Atheism can be the positive belief that there is no deity.
Atheism can be the absence of a belief that there is a deity.
An Atheist will have a personal moral code. However, it is generally derived from secular considerations, and not from a "revealed" religious text.

However, in regards to your question about why any religious group should get their own section in a Veteran's Day Parade;
They shouldn't. Your religion plays no part in what branch of service you join, what role you play, or where you are assigned.
I do find it interesting though, that out of two pages of history regarding this group's attempts to get Bush to admit he made a bigoted statement, you focused on that one paragraph, and for some reason think that was the point of the whole article.
If someone in public office insulted me, I would be extremely interested in obtaining an apology. Mayhaps Trent Lott shouldn't have stepped down either? |
