There are a lot of problems caused by one fact. by caffine-iv 2002-12-27 14:25:46
(that's not really the subject I wanted, but thats maximum length... grrr)

Anyways.

People now days don't understand a grey area. If you order a burger without onions, people are quick to say "Oh, you hate onions!" which may not be the case. You might not be in the mood for them at that time, but in general, don't mind them.

If you say you hate going fast, people will automatically assume you like going slow. This may not be hte case. You may hate driving all together, which means you hate going fast, and could concievably hate going slow even more.

Now for some real world situations.. Watching TV, if there's smething on and I change the channel and watch something else, everyone is quick to say I hate that other TV show. In this specific event, I was watching The Simpsons and changed over to Columbo. I was then asked when I started hating the Simpsons. I don't! I love them. But I like Columbo more!

I'm sure you can think of a LOT of situations where this same sort of stuff may happen, and given enough time and pondering until someone mentions politics and gives you a little more time, you might start seeing where certain things where not what someone intended.

In polls (not government polls, but like info gathering polls) they'll ask a question and you get a yes or no for an answer. And if you say no, they'll label your vote as a 'hate' or 'dislike' or 'disagree' or whatever, depending on the question. This may or may not be accurate. Sometimes, I don't care!

"The Telephone Company should replace the entire POTS system, yes or no?" Well. This is inane. I could care less if they replace it or not, as long as it works. Before anyone mentions money, I'll say that in fees alone we've paid to have it replaced several times over :)

Don't forget good Mister Lott, who voted no on the equal opportunity act. Suddenly people call him racist! But is he? I doubt it. Act's are a legal document, and have ot be written very well because of it. Improper writing leads to loopholes, which could do anything. How do we know he didn't see a loophole comming, or something comming not intended by the legal document? Voting 'No' and then present a modified version of it is hte only way to fix those errors.

But NOOOOooo, everyone has to assume "Oh, if he doesn't like women/blacks/rednecks/whatever, then he must hate them, which makes him racist!" but I bet he is more like me. Could care less what color skin you have or what country you come from. More interested in making sure that the legal docs do what they're supposed to do.

Grey Areas. People don't grasp them at all. Everyone sees Black and White. Either you're against us or with us... Well hell, some of us don't care one way or the other and are perfectly content to just sit here! =P
