Terrible human rights is an understatement. by Naruki 2002-12-27 13:10:50
I wasn't kidding yesterday when I said the citizens are defecting to China. To China. And, of course, to any other place they can go.

The people there are suffering under the government. Now, what kind of a leader would deliberately starve his own people? We've seen numerous examples, so I'm sure you can imagine that it is not someone very mentally stable.

Now imagine this person, who is very petty (requires everyone to sing his praises) and warlike (hoo boy, you have no idea) trying to build up a nuclear arsenal.

You are the only one making this issue seem "black and white". You are saying that that country has just as much right to have WMD as the US or any other country. But that just isn't the case.

Honestly, I'm not so sure _any_ country should have them, but if they are going to exist I'd rather it be in a country where there can be safeguards against an insane ruler. North Korea cannot have such safeguards.

Your proposal to effect a blockade against NK is completely hopeless for at least three reasons:
1) we could only block the sea and the border to SK - not that of other nations bordering NK
2) we would be harming the population a _lot_ worse than by simply blowing up a military plant
3) the madman in charge would just step up his timetable. Unlike his people, he's not starving, you see. He lives in a palace.

I notice that you keep mentioning NK's "leaders" as though there are more than one. Where did you get that mistaken idea?

Maybe you just don't understand that Chong-il is an absolute ruler who does what he wants and makes sure the people he appoints to the lesser positions do the same.
