A lie by omission is harder to prove in court, than a blantant lie.

Heck, here the engineering files are quite the killer, since most run under 1MB each. The problem is each job needs about 15 drawings on average, and they crank out 800 jobs per month.
That's just the engineers. Each quote (average 3 quotes per job, min.) probably uses 5MB each, since they embedded some of the drawing detail into the quote, and then stick in a cutesy logo as well. Of course, each time they e-mail a quote, they send it twice to make sure it gets there, and requests that everyone replies with a quote receipt (which usually [75% of time]) includes the whole original quote. And half the reps always save the sent quotes/received receipts, etc...
Since they quickly hit the 75MB e-mail limit, they archive to personal folder. Since the archive process usually consumes at least 300% more space for the same message, and they store that on the file server...
Yuch,
My new file server is packed with 10 73GB drives. I am even taking the old one (retired NetWare) and putting Red Hat on that running Samba. Just to use the old 6 9GB drives as another dumping ground. In addition to the 80GB SAN array. Need to get another, larger one of those are well. |
