...on the network. Lots easier than bothering with individual workstation backups, and swapping out computers is usually a ten-minute job.

I guess quotas would be impossible to use here, since all of the tax prep and audit tracking software runs from and stores data on the network - some clients have files in excess of 2 gigs each.

Mail quotas are another thing entirely. Even though we've got room to duplicate our mail data files four times over, we tell everyone that we're running low on disk space since the server's old, and limit everyone to 50Mb each unless they start going over - then we bump them up without telling them that we can do that.

Misinformation really is the best way to run an IT department. Keep everyone in the dark and they'll never know what they COULD do.
