What's the best gift you GAVE? by random_c2002-12-27 02:58:42
This year: I gave my sailor friend a wooden... by NOLAWitch 2002-12-27 05:44:48
(no, not woody, you perverts)...chess/backgammon table and more worthy competition in the game. He could not stop grinning at its construction and quality. (Unfortunately, the pieces are plastic--good quality plastic--but not cool ones carved out of stone or shaped like wizards).

He reminded me of my dad during our first Christmas together. When I moved in with my dad, he was very depressed about the holidays because he didn't have a lot of money for what he thought was a good Christmas. He had to go to his parents' house one weekend before the holiday so I flew into a flurry of activity. I made my boyfriend at the time drive me to a tree lot to pick out a tree then all over the place to get the stand and lights and ornaments and then back home. I put the tree up in the corner of the living room and took great pains to decorate it to the best of my ability. I had just finished when I heard a car door in the driveway. I ran to the window and looked at him trudging dejectedly up the driveway. His shoulders were slumped and his face barely concealed the worries in his mind. I ran back to the couch and sat down with a magazine. My heart was racing as the door opened.

All of a sudden replacing the worry, there was a look of wonderment and gratitude. His eyes misted up and this ear-to-ear grin appeared under his nose that wouldn't go away for hours. He started crying and hugging me and told me it was the best present he'd gotten in years. He dined out on that story at the Legion hall until he quit drinking. I've always been a sneaky, little varmint.
