It just hates the American government. Recent surveys have found that half of the Canadian population considers George Bush to be a greater threat to world peace than Saddam Hussein. The major complaints most people have about American policy are 1. When and where the US intervenes in the world. The justification of "we're invading because we want to free the people from cruel oppression" would be far more believable if there were not so many places (without oil reserves) which the US has ignored. 2. Unilateralism. The American government has made it clear that it will invade Iraq with or without the approval of any other nation. 3. Human rights. The US openly flaunts the conventions on consular relations and prisoners of war, is one of only two nations not signatory to the convention on the rights of the child, and continues to carry out executions and use torture. 4. Hypocrisy. The US has active nuclear, chemical, and biological weapons programmes, yet is using unproven allegations of Iraq having such programmes as an excuse to invade.
