The group #2 has fewer evolutionary pressures. The weak are being preserved rather than weeded out. The first group endures great hardship, so only the craftiest, fastest learning, most virile, and most physically fit (i.e. the most evolutionarily fit) will survive to reproduce. Group one is a poor choice to carry on the species since they preserve weak traits in greater quantity.
