Marriage is ingrained in most of those cultures, and most people don't enjoy having their wives gang raped (and those that do really do need impromptu sex changes.) If my choices were fighting and probably dying, or taking a life of rape and abuse, I know which choice I would make. Again, some revolutions must be fought.
