  Clarification by tms17912002-12-01 16:42:36
    a good clarification.... by sumbusch 2002-12-01 17:32:20
makes you sound much more reasonable.....

there might be some limited circumstances under which even you would agree that some sort of alimony was appropriate...

Imagine a young man who has just been accepted to medical school, but has only about 10% of the money required. He meets and marries a woman who has recently graduated from Nursing school. She works extra shifts, as well as doing all the housework, to give him the time and money to get his MD. After school, after the internship, when he is finally ready to go into practice and start earning 5-10 times as much as his loyal and long-suffering wife, he announces his intention to seek a divorce, so he can marry a younger woman. She is emotionally devastated, and close to burn-out professionally (most computer geeks have NO idea how stressful nursing can be). For good measure, let's say she has had back injuries which now limit her ability to work. She has no money saved; it took everything she could earn to put the stinker thru med school. Her "pension plan" was based on his future income -- "for better or worse, til death do us part"
Most divorces these days do not include alimony; there are a few high-profile cases that sound truly outrageous. Would you agree that there a FEW extreme cases in which alimony is appropriate and just?
