where burning the bridges behind you is not appropriate. seeing has this person has already formed a rather nasty view of you already, break out the napalm and let the little wretch take it in full view of his peers, higher-ups, and underlings. getting others on board assists greatly in leaving the little twit hanging out to dry, and the whole experience is a liberating one.
