If your employer laid you off tomorrow, wouldn't you want compensation?

Want it? Yes. Expect it or feel that I deserved it? No. It's funny that you mention that, though. The company I work for is in telecommunications, and that industry isn't doing well right now. I've been talking with another employee and we both agree that we might not have jobs in the near future. If the company folded tomorrow, I wouldn't expect anything other than a check for the time I've worked and not been paid for.
