NT Times article
This is a blatant attempt by the liberals to redistribute wealth. I'm beginning to think that democrats are communists in disguise.
One conclusion, for example, is that if a spouse has committed adultery, it should not affect a judge's decision about alimony or marital property.
Bull pucky, it shouldn't! A marriage is a legal contract between two people. If my wife screws my neighbor, they're breaking their end of the contract and should get NOTHING. (Then again, I think that they should get nothing regardless of the reason the marriage ends). If anything, they should owe ME for breach of contract.
At the end of an intimate relationship, the report said, "a domestic partner is entitled to compensatory payments" similar to alimony "on the same basis as a spouse."
NO, NO, NO!! Don't they see that the reason a lot of people don't get married is because the institution of marriage is so badly screwed up?? Now they want to take a lot of the things about marriage that are screwing it up and transfer those problems over to non-married couples?!?! WTF??? Idiots.
Grace Ganz Blumberg, a co-author of the report, said the recommendations indicated that "we were more willing to redistribute income and wealth" than many courts and state legislatures have been.
At least they admit it. Oh, wait a minute - a women wrote this. Now I get it. Of course women are going to promote these ideas - they're the ones that stand to benefit from them. Don't get me wrong, I LoVe women, but you guys (women) need to get it out of your head that we OWE you something after we break up. If you're concerned about what might happen to you financally if we split up, then you need to GET A JOB and SAVE SOME MONEY.
domestic partners, like spouses, incur economic obligations to each other when they live together for any significant time.
Translation: "We want your money, because we don't plan for the future." What are the "obligations" she's talking about? This is a load of crap.
the distribution of property should be made "without regard to marital misconduct." Thus, it said, a wife should not receive less alimony because she committed adultery
This is their "Get out of jail free" card. Another stinking pile of monkey dung. I again assert the "breach of contract" argument.
The institute's proposals would expand the number of people who can claim custody of a child or visitation rights. Such claims could be made not only by the legal parents, but also by a "de facto parent," defined as an individual who has lived with the child at least two years and "regularly performed a majority of the caretaking functions" without being paid.
Unbelievable. This is only going to create more problems for the kids, particularly with their senses of identity and family.
To eliminate such "emotional and subjective factors," the report said, a court should normally award custody to parents in proportion to the amount of time they spent caring for the child before a divorce.
Hmm, who would that be in almost every case? Oh! The woman! Un-f'ing-believable. The system already awards custody of the kids to the woman in almost every case, regardless of whether it's best for the kids or not. Why not just make it a law and MANDATE that it be done? That way, the woman will be sure that she'll get alimony AND child support! What a great plan! (if you're a woman...)
more parents would be required to contribute to the cost of a child's college education, and even graduate and professional education.
So they want you to be financially responsible for your child until the age of 25? WTF? Mom gets all the credit for sending her kid to Harvard, even though Dad is footing the bill. Ridiculous.
I hope these people get laughed out of existance. Unfortunately, it won't happen. There's too many women and liberal yahoos out there that will agree with them, without even giving any thought to whether or not these things are fair. Fairness doesn't seem to matter when there's money involved, and women stand to gain everything and lose nothing by these proposals.
I'm done ranting. Blast away...
