This would basically ban soccer and basketball (at the very least) from being played in the Olympics. It used to be like that a long time ago, before the first "Dream Team" which we discussed. At that time, the USA used to send its Army basketball team, or a college team, or something like that.

Nowadays players become professional very early, at least in the high-profile sports. In soccer, the players are limited only by age - they are allowed to be professional. In basketball, I don't think even that limitation exists. Hence the Dream Team, which at the time was really made of the best Americans in the NBA. And won the competition fair and square.
