Unfortunately, you are right about our rich millionaires thinking it too much of a bother to go represent their country.

Perhaps you misunderstand me due to a clash in cultures. To most Americans, the location of the team means almost nothing. For the most part, there is very little pride placed in the team that happens to reside in the same city as yourself. This is mainly due to the fact that nobody on the team actually comes from that city, and they will be traded for another person not from that city in a year or two.

That being said, I consider a team international not based on its city, but based on its roster. Look at the NHL for instance. Most of the greats aren't even American. The NHL allstar game pits North American players (Canada is needed to pick up our slack) against the rest of the world. And thus I feel that I can safely say that the NHL championships are a world championship.
