...your bathroom (US meaning of bathroom). The fridge takes up 1/6 of the floorspace and there is no bench space to speak of and no oven or stove top. The cooking appliances are the aforementioned rice cooker and an eletric wok (which is what the steaks were done in). Viva China. The chopstick comes out when the chips are done. No plates. We ate from the largest rice bowls I could find under the sink. Horrible pastel blue and pink melamine (low quality melamine - I like good quality melamine) ones that my wife insisted were blue for me and pink for her. Bleah. I come from a culture that doesn't do silly stuff like that. The bowls don't matter much, but other much more significant things has me putting off children until she has read and can inteligently relate to some basic childhood conditioning theory and how it relates to inequality in the world. There is no way I'm raising a daughter in an environment where she is constantly being told "you're a girl, you're weak, let the boys do all the work. You just have to look pretty so you can get a good (rich) husband." Bleah, bleah, quintrillion BLEAH! Big problem, but I'm working on it. Oh, this is NOT a typical attitude of Chinese women. Many of them are quite liberated.
