Besides, American baseball and basketball players are the best in the world, and for sports such as hockey, all the great professionals from around the world join our leagues. They literally are world championships.

As for this Disney cruise lines thing, many non-American news sources have been covering it, so it is not unreasonable to assume you have had the opportunity to be exposed the story. However, the reference is pretty vague, and Americans that ddon't follow the news closely are just as likely to not get today's comic.
