and now I'm programming, but a lot of people I've talked to said it's very hard to make that jump because the programming department doesn't see you as anything but a help desk flunky. I just lucked out, my boss likes making sure that his employees are happy and doing what they want, and it's a small enough company that I worked directly with the programmers a lot while I was still in support. They figured out that I knew what I was talking about and when the opportunity opened up it was a pretty easy jump. YMMV
