I can safely say that the market, at least up here in canada, is non-existant! I have applied for well over 100 jobs, maybe 20 of them were programming jobs, and I never got an interview. I managed to get two interviews for Tech support jobs, but didn't land either of them. Why? I don't know, they never told me, but the one person I did get to speak with mentioned they hired someone with more experience! HA! I've spent the last 3 months unemployed, and finally managed to land some contract work with the university in town. I'm doing some software design and troubleshooting for a Professor and his grad students. It's amazing experience but the pay isn't there ( universities never have enough money! ) So I'm now moonlighting as a shoe salesman at a Sports store, yeah me :).
None of my Compsci friends can seem to find a job either, although one girl I know is getting interviews etc, but she's too damn smart for her own good :).
