| As my first proper job after uni I managed to get into a small software company (17 staff) as their sole tech support guy. The opening was initially for a gap-year student, but I managed to persuade them to take me instead. It was very low-paid, but it was a great learning experience. I'm now in pretty much the same job, but the company has gone through several mergers and buy-outs and I'm now responsible for a lot lot more. Helldesk might be the easiest route to get into to gain experience, but there are better options out there. You just need a lot of luck finding them.
