there are always people that seem to be willing to part with that kind of money whether the item is worth it or not.

In fact, some people will buy it just -because- it's expensive or no one else can afford it.

Reminds me of the woman who opened an exclusive hat store here a few years ago. Made her own hats and sold them for an amazingly high amount. Really poorly made, but because they were so expensive, they became exclusive. Only the really rich could buy them, so the really rich bought them. It became a fashion thing. Celebrities would make a point of visiting the store to buy one.
