Back a few years when the media hopped all over the CPSC (Consuer Product Safety Commission) band wagon and tried to ban ATV's AKA:quads (four wheeled off-road "motorcycles") as death machines, an industry group fought back with horse related statistics. MORE people are suffer head injuries (that require a hospital visit) on horseback than they do on ALL off-road motorized vehicles... in short, horses are more dangerous. More stats - kids on quads got hurt when unsupervised (duh) and adults suffered injuries when DRUNK and not wearing helments...(double duh) BTW - most rodeo professionals DO wear helmets -- there is a helmet "liner" inside their Cowboy hat! Same with "english" riders -- ANSI certified helmets now...
