If you end up starting over from scratch, try it this way:
- Boot from a DOS1, 2 boot disk and run fdisk.
- Delete the FAT16 partition.
- Reboot from the DOS boot disk and run fdisk again.
- Create the partion again, but do not format it.
- Boot from the linux install CD and run linux fdisk.
- Change the partition type number to 0x0B (FAT32).
- Quit (saving changes) and reboot using the Win2K install CD2.
- Choose FAT as the file system type. (I think it will take the hint from the partition table and use FAT32 this time.)
- If you are worried that it might not have worked right, you can interrupt the install and use linux fdisk to examine what the type is now. 0x06=FAT16, 0x0B=FAT32, 0x07=NTFS
1 You can use any version of MSDOS, or use a Win95 or Win98 rescue disk onto which you have copied the fdisk.exe binary.
2 Actually, if you can get your hands on a Win98 emergency boot disk (you can make one from the Add/Remove Programs control panel in any Win98 installation) then just copy fdisk.exe and format.com onto it. Use that disk to format after linux fdisk and before Win2K install. |
