Veterns Day and Canada? by varikin2002-11-11 11:23:52
LOL... Yes it's "Remberance Day" here by Arienadean 2002-11-11 15:34:09
They've always had it. Many countries from WWI/WWII have it but call it by a slightly diffrent name. Americans call it Vetrans day. We call it Rememberance. UK I think calls it Armistists day...

Most of our vetrans here though are aging. Since their numbers are dwindling the legions here opened their doors to non vets reciently. There are a few female vets that also go but womens roles were limited in the early wars so mostly male dominated in the legion. Nice places though. Off and on over the years I've done things like randomly buy flowers for the vets and hand it to one on the corner saying "We shall not forget lest the past repeat thankyou for what you and others did for us." Usually they have a grin and take the flowers back to the legion. :)

But it's true unfortunately people take for granted sometimes what came out of their sacrifice. We've lived in peace along time never seeing the horrors of war except in some cases on tv in some far off land. So it leaves us desensitized or indiffrent. But those that have grown up in europe in the hardest hit areas probably had stories passed on and may in some cases still see damage done by war.(heritage buildings that needed restored or couldn't be, etc) If anyone see's "Saving Private Ryan" apprently that was pretty much how it was like. My dad surived WWII and was in normandy as part of the Maroon Barett's. His dad served with him I believe but had been in India with British forces in WWI. Some of my uncles served in Korea though nobody I knew had done Nam. So I've heard the stories though when young they'd lighten some of it... Their nightmares spoke volumes though... Though they recovered I think the war just like the world had changed them forever.

Anyways cheers to those that made it back and thankyou for your sacrifices so people could be free. Hats off to those that had fallen that didn't make it back. Hopefully their souls have found peace. To both their sacrifices for family, friends, and even those they didn't know as well as their countries will not be forgotten...
