I was talking about being entitled.

It's a double standard that a lot of people have. "Everyone should help me, I deserve to be given everything" and yet they don't give back, or they have the attitude of "Its your fault you're homeless/poor/whatever, sucks to be you" (which is the attitude my friend has. He doesn't understand volunteering or giving to charities).

As for debt, a lot of people feel like they are entitled to buy whatever they want. Then don't understand when they find themselves in debt, and feel like it's the credit card companies fault for sending them, or their parents fault for not teaching them enough about credit, or schools fault for not teaching them that having negative numbers in a bank account is a bad thing.

Yes, from what you say, I believe you have personal responsibility, and you even get bonus points from me for wondering if you did give money to charity if they would be trustworthy with it. Is that why you don't give?
